Stroller and wheelchair hire
Bringing a stroller or wheelchair on a flight often means extra worry, a risk of damage and heavy baggage. Hired equipment, on the other hand, is waiting at your hotel when you arrive, adjusted to you. But hiring also takes the right choice: old Tbilisi's cobbles, a mountain path and a small lift each call for a different model. On this page we explain how to choose, check and use the equipment.

Who this is for
Families travelling with a baby or small child who would rather not bring a stroller, car seat or cot.
Also older guests and people with limited mobility who need a wheelchair, a walker or a ramp.
Our role
We are not a hire company: we choose a reliable provider, fit the equipment and oversee delivery, checks and return.
You pay the hire and deposit directly to the provider, and we never hold your money. We take no commission from providers, and our fee is agreed in advance.
Why hire
Bringing a stroller or chair on a flight often means extra worry, a risk of damage and heavy baggage.
Hired equipment is already waiting at your hotel when you arrive.
At the end of the trip we collect it on the spot, and going home is lighter.
Strollers
You can hire a light city stroller or a sturdy all-terrain one with big wheels.
On old-town cobbles, big wheels and good suspension make a real difference.
We choose the stroller by the child's age and your route.
Baby carriers
At monasteries, fortresses and on mountain paths a stroller is often useless.
For such days we offer a baby carrier backpack or an ergonomic sling.
Some families take both: a stroller for town and a carrier for excursions.
Car seats
A car seat is chosen by the child's age, weight and height.
A hired seat must carry a European safety standard mark and must never have been in an accident.
A seat is already included in our transfers; hiring one is needed if you drive yourself.
Travel cot and high chair
Some hotels and apartments have no cot or high chair.
We deliver a folding cot, a high chair and bath accessories to your hotel.
We check the mattress and bedding for cleanliness separately.
Small accessories
A stroller bag, rain cover, sunshade and cup holder are small things that make the day easier.
We deliver them with the stroller if you ask.
A baby sleeping bag and footmuff are especially useful in winter.
Wheelchairs
A manual wheelchair is the most widely available and easy to hire.
A light folding model fits in a car boot and is handy for excursions.
We choose the chair by width, weight limit and the way you move.
Power chairs and scooters
Power wheelchairs and mobility scooters are available for hire only in limited numbers.
We book them early and check the charger type and battery range.
A powered model is heavy and needs transport with a ramp.
Walking aids
You can hire a walking stick, crutches, a walking frame or a wheeled walker.
Some guests use a wheelchair only for long distances and walk around town with a walker.
We often suggest this combination to older guests.
Bathroom and toilet
Hotels often lack a shower chair, a raised toilet seat or grab rails.
We supply these on hire and fit them with the hotel's consent.
We check an accessible bathroom by photo before the room is booked.
Portable ramps
One or two steps often block an entire entrance.
A portable ramp solves this at a hotel, restaurant or home.
We choose the ramp length by the step height, so the slope is safe.
Assessing needs
Before hiring we ask how far you walk, where you want to go and what equipment you use at home.
For a wheelchair user we confirm width, weight and footrest height.
This is the basis for choosing the right model.
Size and fit
The chair's width should match the body: too narrow presses, too wide is unstable.
Footrest and backrest height are adjustable, and we set them on handover.
We look for a child's wheelchair separately, in a child's size.
Hygiene
Every item is cleaned and disinfected between customers.
On handover we check the condition of the fabric, handles and locks.
If you are not happy with an item, we replace it the same day.
Technical checks
Before delivery we check the brakes, wheels, tyres and folding mechanism.
On a powered model we check the battery, charger and joystick.
We record the results of the check in photos.
Delivery
We deliver the equipment to your hotel, apartment or the airport.
Airport delivery is handy when your own chair was damaged or lost on the flight.
We time delivery to your flight schedule.
Handover and briefing
On handover we show you how it folds, how the brakes work and how it adjusts.
On a powered model we check driving and charging together.
You sign a handover record describing the item's condition.
Deposit
Some providers ask for a deposit on expensive equipment.
You pay the deposit directly to the provider, and it is returned when the item comes back.
We neither take nor hold the deposit.
The contract
The hire contract sets out the period, price, deposit, damage terms and return rules.
We read the contract together before you sign.
We send you a copy of the contract.
Hire period
You can hire for a day, a week or the whole trip.
A longer hire is often better value.
The period can be extended during the trip, with the provider's agreement.
Damage
Normal wear and tear is not your responsibility.
The contract sets the terms for accidental damage, and we explain them in advance.
If something is damaged, take a photo and tell us at once.
A breakdown on the road
If equipment fails, the provider replaces it or fixes it on the spot.
In Tbilisi a replacement usually comes the same day; in the regions it takes longer.
On a mountain route we plan a back-up option in advance.
The regions
Hire providers are mainly in Tbilisi and Batumi.
On a regional trip the equipment travels with you.
So we choose a light folding model that fits in any car.
The old town
The streets of old Tbilisi are cobbled and steep, and in places the pavement is very narrow.
In these districts big soft wheels and strong brakes matter especially.
We plan the route so the steepest climbs are done by car.
Mountains and nature
In the mountains and countryside an ordinary stroller or wheelchair often cannot get through.
In some places a paved path and a viewpoint are close to the car park.
An all-terrain wheelchair can be found, but it is rare and must be booked early.
Transport
A folding wheelchair fits in an ordinary car boot.
A non-folding or powered chair needs a minibus with a ramp.
We choose transport by the chair's size and weight.
Your own chair on the flight
Most airlines carry mobility equipment under separate rules, but assistance must be requested in advance.
Power-chair batteries are subject to strict airline rules, and we check them before the flight.
If it is damaged, file a report at the airport straight away.
Repairing your own chair
If your own chair is damaged on the flight, we find a repair workshop in Tbilisi.
While it is being repaired, we give you a hired chair.
Keep the repair receipt for your claim against the airline.
Airport assistance
Assistance at the airport for passengers with reduced mobility is requested in advance through the airline or airport.
Our meet-and-greet team completes that help from the aircraft to the car.
We write about special airport services in a separate section.
Accessible toilets
Accessible toilets are not everywhere in Georgia, especially in the regions.
We mark them on the route in advance: shopping centres, new hotels and some museums.
This is one of the main questions in the day's plan.
Rain
In the rain cobbles get slippery, and steering a stroller or wheelchair gets harder.
We supply rain covers for strollers and wheelchairs.
In bad weather we move the route to indoor places.
Winter
In winter wheelchair wheels do badly in snow and on ice.
At ski resorts an adaptive ski instructor is sometimes available, and we confirm this in advance.
We suggest a warm blanket and gloves, because the cold is felt more when sitting in a chair.
Summer
In summer a metal handle left in the sun gets very hot.
A sunshade and ventilation for the child matter on a stroller.
We plan long outings for mornings and evenings.
A stroller on the plane
If you bring your own stroller, many airlines take it at the aircraft door and return it there.
Even then, a protective bag keeps the stroller clean and undamaged.
If you would rather not bring your own, a hired stroller can meet you at Tbilisi airport.
Museums and churches
Large museums often have a lift and an accessible entrance; small ones not always.
Old churches often have thresholds and steps, and the space inside is tight.
In such places a portable ramp or two helpers is often enough, and we plan for it.
A stroller at the feast
When booking a restaurant we ask for space for the stroller, so the child can sleep close to the table.
A restaurant with a courtyard is most convenient here, as the stroller is in nobody's way.
For a long feast we prepare a high chair and a few small toys in advance.
Twins and two children
For twins or two small children we look for a double stroller.
A double stroller is wide and does not always fit through a narrow door.
Sometimes one stroller and one carrier are more convenient.
A child's adaptive chair
A child with limited mobility needs a special seat or adaptive buggy.
Such models are rare, and we often look for them through a specialist organisation.
If possible, we suggest bringing your own model.
Medical equipment
Oxygen concentrators, hospital beds and other medical equipment are hired through a separate provider.
Such equipment often requires a doctor's prescription.
We do not give medical advice, and the choice of equipment is agreed with a doctor.
Charging a power chair
In a hotel room the socket is often far from the bed, so a long cable is useful.
Georgia uses 220 volts and European sockets, so we check the adapter in advance.
On a mountain route we plan where to charge in advance.
Safety
Never leave a stroller or wheelchair in the street without the brake on.
At night a reflective marker makes you easier to see on the road.
Keep valuables in the stroller basket within sight.
Loss and theft
If hired equipment is lost or stolen, tell the provider and the police at once.
The contract sets who covers the loss.
Travel insurance sometimes covers this risk too, and we check it in the policy.
Return
At the end of the trip we collect the equipment from your hotel or the airport.
On return we check the condition together and sign.
The deposit comes back to you directly from the provider.
Booking
We usually book a stroller or manual wheelchair a few days ahead.
Powered and special models must be booked earlier.
In high season stock runs out quickly.
The companion
A companion often pushes the wheelchair, and their strength matters too.
A light frame and good handles make hills easier for the companion.
Where needed we bring in a professional helper.
A professional carer
Some guests need a professional carer for daily tasks.
We find such a person through a specialist agency, by experience and references.
Medical care is a job for licensed staff.
Dignity and respect
We speak directly to the wheelchair user, not only to their companion.
We offer help and wait for consent, rather than imposing care.
We ask the same approach of our partners.
Accessible tours
Equipment is only one part of accessible travel.
We plan the route, transport and places as a whole.
We write about accessible tours on a separate page.
A pre-flight checklist
Before the flight you should have the chair's dimensions, weight, battery type and the airline's confirmation to hand.
Photograph the stroller or chair before the flight, so you can prove any damage.
We send you this checklist.
Flexibility
If needs change during the trip, we swap or add equipment.
Some people manage with a walker in the first days and need a wheelchair later.
We agree the change with the provider quickly.
Common mistakes
A heavy stroller with small wheels in the old town.
Ordering a wheelchair without confirming size and weight.
Checking the power-chair battery rules too late, the day before the flight.
What we need from you
What equipment you need and for whom: age, weight and height.
Dates, address and the delivery point.
The route - city, mountains or sea - and the transport.
Cost
The provider sets the hire price and the deposit, and you pay them directly.
We take no commission from providers and add nothing to their prices.
Our coordination fee is separate and agreed in advance.
